Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How long have you been drawing?
A: I have been drawing since my parents allowed me to hold objects with the potential to leave markings on other objects. Fortunately, I wasn't a fan of drawing on vertical surfaces like walls (although I did get in trouble during grade school for doodling horses and dragons on my desks in pencil). When I was little, I'd fill notebook after notebook with short stories and illustrations when I should have been sleeping.
Q: What are your favorite animals?
A: In order, my favorite animals are: horses, wolves, tigers, domestic cats, cephalopods (especially cuttlefish), hermit crabs, and birds of prey.
Q: Favorite books?
A: In no particular order: Blade of Tyshalle by Matthew Woodring Stover; American Gods by Neil Gaiman, Gingerbread by Rachel Cohn; His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman; the Ender Quartet by Orson Scott Card; The Expanse series by James S.A. Corey. Oh, and I will always love the Animorphs series by K.A. Applegate.
Q: Where is the coolest place you've ever visited?
A: The coolest place that I've visited so far is New Zealand. I managed to climb up and down a mountain without injuring myself, saw absolutely stunning landscape and bizarre animals, and learned how to smuggle meat pies onto a trolley without getting in trouble. Some other amazing trips were to Iceland, South Korea (my homeland) and Nova Scotia (land of Clare, my best friend).
Q: I have an awesome idea for a drawing. Will you draw it?
A: I very rarely take on commissions. I have a business to which I devote most of my time and energy, which leaves me with limited time for art. I'm always happy to discuss your ideas, but don't be offended if I politely decline.
Q: How long does it take for you to draw something?
A: It depends on the subject matter, intricacy of the drawing, and the materials used. Some sketches take me as little as a minute to complete. Larger, more detailed drawings can take hours, days, or weeks to finish.
Q: Can I use one of your drawings as my avatar/profile picture/reference for a drawing/character design for a story I'm writing?
A: Short answer, no. I do not allow my existing art to be used elsewhere without my written permission.
Q: Why are you so picky about your art being used? Shouldn't you be flattered?
A: I am flattered, but I also detest art theft (even if it's unintentional). I've had too many experiences with my art being used without my permission for commercial or personal use, and any artist who earns a living on their work will tell you that it is disrespectful and, in many cases, illegal. Please respect artists by NOT taking their work.
Q: What do you want to be when you grow up?
A: I'll let you know when I get there.
